ABOUT ME/BIO

Hey there, I'm Shrav. With a background in psychology, cognitive neuroscience and counselling, I approach therapy with an integrative, relational, creative, trauma-informed, culture-sensitive and deeply personal lens. My main training is in both the psychodynamic and person-centred/humanistic approaches and I use my background in cognitive neuroscience and psychology to work with and better support the emotional impacts of related conditions (i.e., neurodivergence, cognitive decline, chronic illnesses). I also work closely with relational difficulties, issues around communication, trauma around family of origin/childhood, culture and difference, as well as all forms of identity and intersectionality.

Prior to working as a therapist, I have worked in a crisis-intervention setting, taught undergraduate psychology modules, tutored students with learning difficulties and have engaged in research around autism spectrum condition in adults, and the impact of traumatic dissociation on the self.

HOW I CAN HELP YOU
I work relationally and integratively with my clients: this means that I focus on what you’d like to work with in our sessions and use the parts of my training and experience that best suit what you need, guided by a trusting, grounded and steady working relationship. If you find yourself feeling stuck and unable to figure yourself out, called back to events in the past, running into problems in relationships or trying to navigate a recent life transition or overwhelmed by strong emotions, I can help with that.

My two main approaches are psychodynamic and person-centered: I work with unconscious patterns and past experiences that may shape how you interpret and interact with the world around you - while also working with the person you are now and how all the different aspects of you might shape your experiences. I also use arts-based techniques and somatic (body-based) techniques as required.
WHY I AM SPECIALIZED IN THIS FIELD
My approach to therapy as a whole is shaped by my experiences both as a therapist and client; having been in the depths myself and supporting loved ones through mental health difficulties, I understand how challenging the process can be at times. The themes of relational trauma, identity, generational/cultural trauma and difference played a core part in guiding my own process and learning. I have a strong educational and research background in mental health, completing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, a Master’s degree in Cognitive Neuroscience and a Master’s degree in Counselling with further studies in mental health and trainings that focus on the importance of cultural context, identity and how that shapes us as people. I am deeply familiar with the impact mental health difficulties (chronic or otherwise) can have on a person or a loved one and this continues to guide my work. I have also worked with a diverse range of clients, and understand learning to be a lifelong process. I believe a combination of lived experience, client work and a robust educational background help me offer a personalised, informed and grounded approach to therapy.
WHAT I SAY TO PEOPLE WHO FEEL NERVOUS OR HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THERAPY/ASSESSMENT
It can be uncomfortable to open up about certain thoughts or feelings, especially to someone you aren’t familiar with. Whatever it may be, you can bring it with you and we’ll figure it out together.
SLIDING SCALE OR PRO-BONO
Where supportive of therapeutic goals and in discussion with the clinical team, a discount for sessions can be offered on a case-by-case basis for those whose financial situations may limit their access to therapy. Please note that a discounted rate can only be offered on weekdays between the hours of 10am to 3pm.

I would love to connect with you!
