How I can help you
I follow a psychodynamic approach. This theoretical framework understands the interaction of various conscious and unconscious mental and emotional processes to influence personality, behaviour, patterns in our lives, and attitudes. In-depth talk therapy encourages you to speak freely about anything that comes to mind, including current issues, thoughts, feelings, fears, and dreams. Although working from a psychodynamic perspective, I also include other approaches if required. For example, OCD responds well to CBT with exposure and response prevention.
The first two therapy sessions are usually spent discussing the difficulties that you are experiencing and developing an understanding of your background. After understanding what has brought you to therapy, I pay attention to the developmental origins of your personal difficulties, the associated internal and external conflicts, the ways in which these conflicts are managed, relational dynamics, and mental and emotional patterns. I also aim to uncover pre-conscious and unconscious material, to identify mental and emotional links, and to assist in modifying them where necessary. Therapy can be thought of as a conversation where you will be encouraged to spontaneously express your experiences, thoughts, and feelings. I will offer interpretations as part of therapy. These aims to deepen insight and facilitate change.
