ABOUT ME/BIO

Divina is a CDA-licensed Social Worker (Mental Health) specialising in therapeutic work with children, adolescents and young adults. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, primarily incorporating Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills and play-based approaches.

With over a decade of experience, Divina has worked with young people and families across specialist mental health, educational and community settings in the UK, Ireland and the UAE. Her practice focuses on child and adolescent mental health and the transition into young adulthood, with experience supporting anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, low mood, trauma, grief and bereavement, neurodivergence, relationship difficulties and school-related concerns. Divina’s career has been centred around supporting children, young people and families.

She began her professional journey in social care before qualifying as a social worker and moving into increasingly specialised roles across mental health, education, bereavement and community services. Her previous experience includes working within an NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) crisis team in the UK, where she carried out mental health and risk assessments and provided therapeutic interventions to young people and families experiencing significant emotional distress.

Divina works from a systemic perspective, looking beyond the presenting difficulty to understand the wider experiences, relationships and environments that may be influencing a person’s wellbeing. Her approach is collaborative, neuroaffirming, and tailored to the person in front of her. She encourages children and young people to bring their own interests into sessions and recognises that talking is not always the easiest way to communicate. Sessions may involve conversation, creativity, play, games or activities, depending on what helps the person feel most comfortable and engaged. Each person’s voice, perspective, individual differences and strengths are central to the work.

HOW I CAN HELP YOU
I am a CDA-Licensed Social Worker specialising in therapeutic work with children, adolescents and families.

I trained in Ireland and the UK and have spent my career working alongside children and families across a range of settings. My professional background includes statutory child and family services, child protection, school-based work and an NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health crisis service. In the NHS, I worked with young people presenting to hospital with significant emotional distress, self-harm and mental health difficulties as part of a multidisciplinary team.

These experiences shaped the way I practise today. My social work background taught me to look beyond symptoms and understand a young person within the context of their relationships, family, school, development and life experiences.

I am committed to ongoing learning and regularly develop my knowledge and skills through further training, reflection and engagement with current research. I aim to provide evidence-based therapy, drawing on approaches that are supported by research while adapting them thoughtfully to each young person's age, needs, goals and circumstances.

I have continued to develop my therapeutic practice through training in EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, motivational interviewing and play-based approaches. I have completed EMDRIA Basic Training and have a particular professional interest in developing EMDR and creative approaches for children and adolescents. I believe that effective therapy combines evidence-based practice with a strong therapeutic relationship and a flexible, individualised approach.

There is also a personal connection to working within an international community. I grew up in the United States before moving to Ireland as a teenager and later trained and worked in the UK before moving to Dubai. Having experienced significant transitions between countries myself, I understand that questions of change, belonging and identity can form an important part of a young person's story.

Throughout very different roles and countries, the consistent thread in my career has been supporting children, teenagers and their families. I feel privileged to support young people as they develop a deeper understanding of themselves, build confidence and find ways to move forward.
WHY I AM SPECIALIZED IN THIS FIELD
I am passionate about helping the people she works with make connections, overcome barriers and feel more able to be their authentic selves. I consider it a privilege to be trusted with a part of someone’s story and find it especially rewarding to see people make meaningful shifts, work towards their goals and carry those changes into everyday life. I also grew up in a family involved in fostering and adoption, which contributed to my on-going interest in attachment, identity and family dynamics.
WHAT I SAY TO PEOPLE WHO FEEL NERVOUS OR HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THERAPY/ASSESSMENT
It is okay to feel nervous about therapy, and you do not have to be good at talking to attend sessions. Finding the right therapist and building a trusting therapeutic relationship are important parts of the process, so it is okay if it takes time to find someone who feels like the right fit for you. If we decide to work together, we will take time to get to know one another and find an approach that feels manageable. Your voice matters, and we will work at a pace that feels comfortable. We might talk, play, create or use humour as we build our connection. There is no "right" way to do therapy so we will work together to make it feel safe and supportive for you.
SLIDING SCALE OR PRO-BONO
I believe that access to mental health support is important. A limited number of reduced-fee sessions may be available depending on individual circumstances and availability. Please feel free to enquire, and I would be happy to discuss possible options.

I would love to connect with you!
