About Me/Bio
I have a master’s degree in child & youth psychology and clinical psychology. and have been working as a psychologist since 2009. Before moving from the Netherlands to Dubai in 2018 and starting working at KidsFIRST Medical Center, I was a psychologist both in private clinics and in an academic hospital, where I worked with children, adolescents and families. My experience spans a range of childhood and adolescent conditions, such as attention deficit with hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, depression, post traumatic stress disorder, self-esteem problems and (gender) identity problems. I mostly apply cognitive behavioral approaches (CBT) and I am educated in applying EMDR to children with a traumatic experience. At the moment I am finishing my ACT (Acceptance Commitment Therapy) course. I like to make my therapy active, by doing physical exercises, (role-)play and games to practice the learned strategies. I am also skilled in parental support. What I found important is a good client-psychologist relationship and involvement of the respective family, which in my experience often is the foundation for a successful treatment. I will be moving To Cape Town in the summer of 2022, but I will still be working remotely for KidsFIRST Medical Center.
